General Questions

What is an IBC tote?

An IBC (Intermediate Bulk Container) tote is a reusable industrial container designed for storing and transporting bulk liquids and granular materials. They typically consist of a plastic inner bottle housed in a steel cage mounted on a pallet, with capacities ranging from 275 to 550 gallons. IBCs are designed to be moved by forklift and are stackable for efficient storage.

What can IBC totes be used for?

IBC totes are incredibly versatile and used across many industries. Common uses include storing and transporting liquids like chemicals, food ingredients, beverages, oils, water, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and cleaning products. They're also used for granular materials like grains, powders, and pellets. Many people also repurpose them for rainwater collection, aquaponics, and other DIY projects.

How long do IBC totes last?

With proper care, a quality IBC tote can last 5-10 years or more. The lifespan depends on factors like what materials are stored, storage conditions (UV exposure accelerates degradation), and how often they're moved. Our repair services can extend the life of your containers significantly. The steel cage often outlasts multiple plastic bottles.

What's the difference between new and reconditioned IBCs?

New IBCs come directly from the manufacturer and have never been used. Reconditioned IBCs have been professionally cleaned, inspected, and any worn parts replaced. Reconditioned containers can cost 40-60% less than new while providing similar performance. We thoroughly inspect and grade all our reconditioned containers.

Are IBC totes food safe?

Many IBC totes are manufactured to be food-grade and meet FDA requirements for food contact. However, not all IBCs are suitable for food use. Food-grade IBCs must be made from FDA-compliant HDPE plastic and have appropriate documentation. We clearly label our food-grade containers and can provide certificates of compliance.

How should I store IBC totes?

Store IBCs on a level, solid surface away from direct sunlight if possible (UV degrades plastic over time). Empty IBCs should have lids secured to prevent contamination. For long-term storage, consider covering with tarps or storing indoors. Stack according to manufacturer guidelines—typically 2-3 high when full, 4-5 high when empty.

Buying IBC Totes

What grades of IBC totes do you sell?

We offer three grades: Grade A (like-new condition, minimal wear, suitable for food-grade applications), Grade B (good working condition with normal wear, cosmetic imperfections acceptable), and Grade C (functional but with visible wear, best for non-critical uses like water storage or waste collection). Each container is carefully inspected before sale and graded honestly.

Do you offer bulk discounts?

Yes! We offer volume discounts starting at 10+ units. The more you buy, the more you save—typical discounts range from 5-20% depending on quantity and grade. We also offer special pricing for recurring orders and long-term contracts. Contact us for a custom quote on large orders.

Can you deliver IBC totes?

Yes, we offer delivery throughout Los Angeles and Southern California. Delivery fees are based on distance and quantity—often delivery is free for orders of 10+ units within our core service area. Same-day delivery is available for urgent needs within the LA area for an additional fee. We have various truck sizes to accommodate any order.

What sizes are available?

We carry the most common sizes: 275 gallon (most popular), 330 gallon (20% more capacity, same footprint), 350 gallon, and 550 gallon (double capacity, larger footprint). The 275 and 330 gallon sizes are most frequently in stock. Contact us for specific availability or if you need a particular size.

Do you offer any warranty?

We stand behind our products with a satisfaction guarantee. Grade A containers come with a 30-day warranty covering any defects. If a container doesn't meet the stated grade or has undisclosed damage, we'll replace it or refund your purchase. Our reputation depends on selling quality products.

Can I see the containers before buying?

Absolutely! We encourage customers to visit our facility and inspect containers before purchasing, especially for larger orders. Our yard is open during business hours, and our team can show you different grades and sizes. For customers who can't visit, we can send photos and detailed descriptions.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, check, credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), ACH transfers, and wire transfers. For established business accounts, we offer NET 30 terms upon credit approval. A deposit may be required for large orders.

Do you sell parts and accessories?

Yes, we stock a variety of IBC parts including replacement valves, caps, gaskets, adapters, camlock fittings, and spare lids. We can also source specific parts if we don't have them in stock. Parts sales are available for pickup or can be shipped.

Selling IBC Totes

How much will you pay for my IBC totes?

Pricing depends on several factors: condition of the containers, what they previously held, quantity, and current market conditions. Clean, single-use containers in good condition command the highest prices. Containers that held food-grade products are worth more than those used for chemicals. Contact us with details for a free quote—we provide honest assessments.

Do you pick up containers?

Yes! We offer free pickup service throughout Los Angeles and Southern California for quantities of 5 or more containers. For smaller quantities, there may be a pickup fee depending on location. Just tell us your address and quantity, and we'll schedule a convenient time. We typically can arrange pickup within 1-3 business days.

What containers do you NOT accept?

We cannot accept containers that held hazardous materials (pesticides, herbicides, toxic chemicals, radioactive materials, biohazards). We also can't accept severely damaged containers (cracked bottles, crushed cages) or leaking containers. If you're unsure about eligibility, contact us—we'll help determine if we can accept your containers.

How quickly do you pay?

We offer same-day payment for most pickups. Payment options include check, cash, or direct deposit. We verify containers on-site and provide payment immediately upon confirmation that they meet agreed-upon conditions. For large transactions, wire transfer is available.

What information do I need to provide for a quote?

To provide an accurate quote, we need: quantity of containers, approximate age, what was previously stored (if known), current condition (any damage?), your location, and photos if possible. More detail helps us provide a more accurate quote. You can submit this info via our contact form, email, or phone.

Do you buy containers from residential customers?

Yes, we purchase from both businesses and individuals. Whether you have one IBC from a home project or dozens from a commercial operation, we're interested. Minimum quantities may apply for pickup service, but drop-offs of any quantity are welcome at our facility.

Recycling

What happens to recycled IBC totes?

We disassemble containers and separate materials for maximum recycling efficiency. HDPE plastic bottles are shredded and processed into pellets for manufacturing new plastic products. Steel cages and frames are sent to metal recyclers. Wood pallets become mulch, particle board, or are refurbished for reuse. We achieve a 99% material recovery rate.

Is there a fee for recycling?

In most cases, recycling is free and we may even pay you for recyclable containers. Only containers that require special handling (like those with hazardous residue or unusual contamination) may incur a processing fee. We'll always tell you upfront if any fees apply.

Do you provide recycling documentation?

Yes, we provide certificates of recycling upon request. This documentation includes the date, quantity, and materials recycled. It's useful for environmental compliance records, sustainability reporting, ISO certifications, and corporate environmental initiatives.

What's the environmental benefit of recycling IBCs?

Recycling IBCs conserves significant resources. Each container recycled saves approximately 70 lbs of CO2 emissions compared to landfill disposal. The HDPE plastic can be recycled multiple times without significant degradation. By recycling, you help reduce demand for virgin plastic and keep materials in the circular economy.

Can damaged containers be recycled?

Yes, even heavily damaged containers can be recycled. Cracked bottles, crushed cages, and broken pallets all have value as recycling materials. The plastic, steel, and wood components are separated and processed individually. Contact us even if your containers seem beyond repair—we can likely recycle them.

Repairs & Refurbishment

What repairs can you perform?

We offer comprehensive repair services including: valve replacement (ball valves, butterfly valves, caps), cage repair (straightening, welding, part replacement), bottle replacement (new HDPE inner container), pallet repair (wood or steel), gasket replacement, professional cleaning and sanitization, and label removal. Most repairs can restore containers to full working condition.

How much do repairs cost?

Repair costs vary based on the work needed. Simple valve replacement: $25-50. Gasket replacement: $10-20. Cage straightening: $30-75. Complete bottle replacement: $150-250. Thorough cleaning: $25-50. We offer free assessments and quotes. Repairs typically save 50-70% compared to buying new containers.

How long do repairs take?

Most repairs are completed within 24-48 hours. Simple repairs like valve replacement can often be done same-day. More extensive work like bottle replacement may take 2-3 days depending on parts availability. We can accommodate rush requests for urgent needs—let us know your timeline.

Can you repair containers on-site?

For simple repairs and assessments, yes, we can sometimes perform work on-site. For more extensive repairs, containers need to come to our facility where we have proper equipment. We offer pickup and delivery for repair work—drop off your containers and we'll return them when complete.

Is it worth repairing an old container?

In most cases, yes. The steel cage typically lasts much longer than the plastic bottle and can support multiple bottle replacements. Even if the bottle needs replacing, it's usually more economical than buying new. We'll give you an honest assessment—if repair costs approach replacement cost, we'll recommend buying a replacement instead.

Do you clean containers for reuse?

Yes, we offer professional cleaning services for containers you want to reuse. Our cleaning process can include pressure washing, sanitization, and removal of labels and residue. Different cleaning levels are available depending on your intended use. Food-grade cleaning protocols are available for containers returning to food service.

Transportation

What areas do you serve?

We serve Los Angeles and the greater Southern California region, including: Los Angeles County, Orange County, Inland Empire (San Bernardino, Riverside), Ventura County, Santa Barbara County (southern), and San Diego County. Contact us for service outside these areas—we can often accommodate with advance notice.

Do you offer same-day service?

Yes, same-day pickup and delivery is available within the Los Angeles area for an additional fee. Schedule as early as possible for the best availability—call before 10 AM for best same-day service. For regular business needs, we offer scheduled recurring pickups and deliveries.

What size loads can you handle?

For larger quantities, we can arrange multiple trips or coordinate with freight carriers. Contact us for full truckload (FTL) shipping options for orders of 80+ units.

How are containers secured during transport?

We use professional load securement methods including straps, chains, and load bars. Full containers are secured to prevent shifting and spilling. Empty containers are typically stacked and strapped. All our drivers are trained in proper IBC handling and DOT compliance.

Can you ship containers outside California?

Yes, we can arrange shipping anywhere in the continental United States. We work with trusted freight carriers for long-distance shipments. LTL (less than truckload) and FTL options are available. Contact us for shipping quotes—prices depend on destination, quantity, and timing.

What if my containers are in a difficult access location?

We can work with challenging access situations including: narrow driveways, dock-height only loading, forklift-required locations, and multi-story buildings with elevator access. Let us know about any access limitations when scheduling so we can bring appropriate equipment.

Technical & Safety

What is UN certification for IBCs?

UN (United Nations) certification indicates a container meets international standards for transporting hazardous materials. The most common designation is UN 31HA1 for composite IBCs (plastic bottle, steel frame). UN-certified containers undergo testing for drop resistance, pressure, stacking, and leakproofness. This certification is required for shipping regulated chemicals.

How can I tell if an IBC is food-grade?

Food-grade IBCs have specific markings. Look for: FDA compliance statement, food-grade HDPE designation, manufacturer's food contact certification, and clean container history documentation. The plastic should be virgin (not recycled) for food applications. We can provide documentation for all food-grade containers we sell.

What chemicals are NOT compatible with HDPE?

HDPE is resistant to most chemicals but has limitations. Avoid using HDPE IBCs for: aromatic solvents (benzene, toluene, xylene), chlorinated solvents, ketones (acetone, MEK), strong oxidizers, and concentrated nitric acid. When in doubt, check with us or consult a chemical compatibility chart. For incompatible chemicals, stainless steel IBCs are recommended.

How much weight can an IBC hold?

Standard IBCs are rated for approximately 2,200-2,600 lbs gross weight (including the container weight of ~120-145 lbs). However, actual capacity depends on the density of contents. Water (8.34 lbs/gallon) works out to about 2,200 lbs for 275 gallons. Heavier liquids may require partial filling to stay within weight limits.

How should I dispose of residual product from containers?

Never pour product residue on the ground or into storm drains. Small amounts of food-grade products may be suitable for drain disposal (check local regulations). Chemical residues should be handled according to material safety data sheets (MSDS). We can advise on proper disposal methods or connect you with waste disposal services.

Can IBCs be pressure-tested?

Yes, IBCs can be pressure-tested as part of the reconditioning process. UN-certified containers must pass specific pressure tests. We can perform pressure testing as part of our inspection services. Standard HDPE IBCs are not designed for pressurized contents—they're intended for atmospheric storage only.

Pricing & Business

How do you determine IBC prices?

Prices depend on: grade/condition (A, B, C), size (275, 330, 550 gallon), type (composite, stainless, food-grade), quantity ordered, market conditions, and previous contents. We aim for fair, competitive pricing. Prices fluctuate with supply and demand, so quotes are valid for a limited time.

Do you offer rental programs?

We primarily focus on sales rather than rentals, but we can arrange short-term container loans for some business needs. For ongoing rental needs, we can discuss custom arrangements. Most customers find purchasing reconditioned containers more economical than long-term rentals.

Can I set up a business account?

Yes, we offer business accounts with benefits including: NET 30 payment terms (upon credit approval), volume pricing, dedicated account representative, priority scheduling for pickup/delivery, and simplified ordering. Contact us to apply for a business account.

Do you provide quotes in writing?

Yes, we provide written quotes by email or through our online system. Quotes include: unit prices, quantities, any delivery fees, total cost, and quote validity period (usually 7-14 days). Written quotes help prevent misunderstandings and provide documentation for your purchasing process.

What's the minimum order quantity?

There's no minimum for purchases at our facility—we'll sell you a single container. For delivery, minimums vary by distance (typically 4-10 units for free delivery). For pickups when selling containers to us, we generally require 5+ units for free pickup, though drop-offs of any quantity are welcome.
